Zonule refers to a zone or area in which one engages in yoga, performs puja or related occult experiments. The term represents a physical area as an intentional local space for spiritual exertion (sadhana).
Within the International Nath Order, the zonule is the working ground of the path. A petitioner is asked to keep one—a dedicated place with an altar and the elements—and to use it daily for mantra, japa, puja, and meditation. Initiates tend named zonules as the seat of their own work and as a point of contact in the living Kula. On practical levels the word is used as a counterpart to kula chakra: the sacred circle of communion and the physical seat of experiment. Shri Gurudev Mahendranath described this small prepared space as the Umbra Zonule, with a Dragon Seat and the four elements set before it so that will and mind can act. A tapovan is the same idea under another name: the zonule where exertion is made strong.
