Kali is a Goddess whose name means black or dark. She is known from the Devi Mahatmyam, where she springs from Durga’s brow. She names dissolution and destruction: the cutting of mind-born delusions that stand between a person and the Divine.
Within the International Nath Order she is a form of Shakti and of the Cosmic Spirit, not a creed. The Uttara Kaula stream honored the Mother under this name among others. She is not Devi as the INO suffix for an initiated woman. She is not the Kali Yuga. Bhairava is the fierce office of the Lord. Kali is the fierce office of the Mother.
